The Short List

New For Me

“Tolerations” is my new word for the day.  I heard it used in a discussion on a radio program.  Tolerations are those things in life we put up with even though we are less than thrilled with them, and they annoy the crap out of us.  I see tolerations like termites.  We do not always see them, but they are there eating away at our energy.

One of the big tolerations previously on my list was valet parking.  How did I get rid of it?  I do not spend money at places that try to force me to valet.  I choose to take my money elsewhere.  Another previous toleration was chronically late people.  I cannot change their behavior but I can change mine.  I just do not invite them to places anymore.  Toleration solved.

Tolerations are everywhere:  jobs, family, friends, coworkers, tasks, or most anything that drains our energy a little with each occurrence.  We go to parties knowing there are people there we would rather not be around, but we go anyway.  A coworker talks too loud on the phone regularly, but rather than ask them to speak quieter, we walk off in frustration just a bitching and complaining.  The way to resolve tolerations is to identify them, determine the ones you can get rid of, and for those you cannot change, you let them go and change the situation.

How long is your Tolerations list?
