It’s That Time
It’s official. Another rodeo season is in the books. Additionally, the spring season officially started last week. Two seasonal shifts in a week means new things and experiences are on the way.
In Dr. Henry Cloud’s book How To Get A Date Worth Keeping, he has numerous references to seasons in relationships. In particular, he focuses a fair amount of words on the importance of experiencing the seasons of the person you are dating. He has a particular comment that still makes me laugh, “If you believe in love at first sight, come see me and bring lots of money.” His comment is spot on though. Without experiencing someone through a full set of seasons, how can you really love them? We can be smitten, infatuated, or even in lust, but true love requires seasonal experiences.
All relationships have seasons. Whether it is dating, family, or friendship, things change. In the last year alone, there are some in my life that I’ve become closer to and am experiencing new seasons with them. Every time I see Tristen, it is like a new season. In as little as a week, I can see changes in him physically and in his mannerisms. Seasons bring change and growth. If we’re not changing, we’re not growing. Embrace your seasons and the seasons of those around you.
