Sooner or Later

“Help When You Need It!”  That phrase is on the sign at my local independent hardware store.  Even though I’ve seen it many times, I found myself looking at it over and over this morning as I was working out at the gym across the street.  One word kept jumping out at me each time I looked over, when.  It is not if, but when we need help.

Think about it for a minute.  When we go to the doctor, we are asking for help with an illness or injury yet no one thinks twice about asking in that situation.  On the opposite side, us dumb boys will attempt to lift something that is too heavy and hurt our back rather than ask for help as our egos tell us we are strong enough to do the job.  We all will endure emotional and mental beatings rather than seeking the help of a friend or a counselor.

Although many consider asking for help a sign of weakness, I consider it a positive and strong word.  It shows you know your limitations.  I am the first to ask for help now.  If I am dealing with some emotional stuff, I will talk to someone.  If my patience is wearing thin, I call Johnnie to real me back in.  If I am being bitchy, I hop on the Harley for a little therapy and head clearing.  No matter the situation, I know when to ask for help.

I know sooner or later I will need help and if sooner means I do not have to deal with something later, that’s “WINNING!”
