Catered Versus Challenged

I heard a new reference, well new to me, about today’s generation.  Ron Carpenter referred to them as, “The Catered Generation.”  Most everything is given to them rather than making them work for it.  Being catered to breeds the entitlement we see in so many.  Expectations of a new car, a new cell phone, maid to clean the house, $160 jeans, a gas card, a large allowance, etc.  As long as we cater to them, what is the incentive to do something/anything?  We need to challenge rather than cater.

I hear stories about clothes piling up in the laundry room then the kids whining about not having any clean clothes, “it’s not my job to wash the clothes…”  Well, you wore the clothes so I would think if you don’t want to stink, you should wash them.  Then there is the ever famous, “I’m hungry…fix me something to eat…”  Well, if you are that hungry, you will find something and cook it yourself.

We make people accountable by challenging them.  Rather than cater today, issue a challenge.
