Saver or Tosser?
Which one are you, Saver or Tosser? Savers are often referred to as pack rats or in extreme cases, horders. It can be anything from clothes they wore as a teen to cards dating back to childhood. You name it, and they hold on to it. Tossers are known as minimalists. They are quick to get rid of things they feel have little value. I find lots of irony in both titles, as it is a Savor defining a Tosser or vice versa. A Savor can see a Tosser as a detached person that cares very little about things, as they do not keep much around them. A Tosser can see a Saver as an emotionally attached person that just can’t let go of anything. I have boxes of photos and cards dating back to my childhood. I’ve also cleared out things from certain relationships over the last few years. Does that make me a Saver or Tosser? It makes me neither. I like to refer to it as being a Balancer.
I see a Balancer as someone actively involved in their life and audits it regularly to determine what needs to be kept and what needs to go away. The photos and cards from my childhood carry good memories for me. The things I got rid of from the relationships are things and memories that no longer served my life in a positive way, so they are gone. If I look at cards, emails, or gifts that bring me sadness or discomfort, that tells me they need to go. If they bring good feelings and memories, they need to stay.
Back to my original question, are you are Saver or a Tosser? I would hope your answer is that I am sometimes both but with Balancer tendencies.
