Ya Blinked

We do a drill in MMA classes where your partner hits you in the top of the head or side of the face.  No, we are not dummies that just pound on each other.  There is a reason and some logic behind it.  The drill is to condition you not to blink when a punch is coming your way.  The concept is simple.  If you’re eyes are closed, you can’t see what is coming your way hence, the blindside.  Talk to most any fighter that has been knocked out, and we all have at some point, and they will give you a common answer, “I never saw it coming.”

I believe there are similar drills in life.  We have to keep our eyes open to minimize getting blindsided.  By eyes open, I mean physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional.  I am not saying you have to be on guard all the time, but you do need to be aware of everything in your life.  To my knowledge, there is not a 100% foolproof method to stop getting blindsided, but by increasing awareness and paying attention, you can sure reduce the occurrences of the blindside.
