Water Walker

PMP - three letters that used to exact an amount of havoc on people when I was still an active member of Corporate America.  I recall asking one Manager what it took to get an Outstanding Rating, the highest rating, on my PMP.  He said, “You pretty much have to walk or water.”  Being the consummate smart-ass that I can be, I said, “So if I can make the water, what will that get me?”  He did not know how to answer the question, but I did make him laugh A LOT. 

Honestly, that is one of the best things I like about being an independent contractor.  I do not have to deal with PMPs.  Rather, I need to do the best I can each day.  That’s what I am paid to do and ultimately what leads to more engagements for more work.  So many people think “the job” owes them when in actuality they are being paid to do said job so do it.  Doing enough just to get by, does just that for you.  You just get by.  We were not made to just “get by.”  Whether it is the job, a relationship, or just life, strive to be a Water Walker.
