Hush

Mute

I find the mute button to be one of my favorites on the computer.  If I’m listening to satellite radio and commercials come on, I hit mute.  I do the same thing on the television at home.  I just choose not to listen to the mindless drivel and chatter sometimes.  Daily life requires a mute button in my opinion.  We are subjected to so much noise and static each day that we just need to turn it all off and get quiet sometimes.  Information overload is alive and well today.  I laugh at people that think they’ve “gotta know” what’s going on at every waking moment.  The funny thing is that the news nowadays is so brainless and useless that something could break in the morning, and they will still be looping it at 5 pm in the afternoon.  As the Bible discusses, we need to guard our hearts and heads by being selective and filtering what we take in.  For me, that means turning off the gloom and doom Constantly Negative News (CNN), skipping right by any of the scandal shows, and avoiding professional pessimists and negative people.

It gets back to the phrase, “We are products of our environment.”  Allow yourself some quiet time to be alone with your thoughts.  Even if it is just turning off the radio when you drive or pulling over in the park for 10 minutes or so just to drain the noise of the day.  Choose to change your environment by muting out the crap.
