Detour
With the widening of I-10 over in my area, there are lots of
detours and lane closures. As I was
driving home last night, I saw the cones and the flashing arrow point to the
left indicating the lane was closed.
Looking at the sign, I began thinking about how many detours we
encounter in life, but then my thinking shifted.
Are the detours really detours, or were they the path all
along just maybe not the path we had in our head? I know people that attempt to have their day
and life planned down to the minute.
When something shifts or detours them a little, they spin out of
control. I’ve learned over the years that
leaving yourself little to no margin for error or detour most all the time ends
in frustration, stress, and aggravation.
Life presents enough challenges already, we don’t need to pile on our
own with our “rainman” schedule.
Rather than work yourself up into a lather today when
something deviates from your plan, try using this little approach. “Hmmm, let’s
see where this goes.” Allow yourself the
flexibility to enjoy the unexpected.
