Diggin

Shovel or Backhoe

Figuratively, we all end up in a hole at some point.  It can be with loss of a loved one, finances, relationships, a job, or whatever.    When you’re in it, it is often hard to figure out how to dig out of it.  I’ve been in some that felt like quicksand, and no matter what I used or how much I dug, I couldn’t get out.  Some holes require a little effort like using a shovel, and others require something like a backhoe to get out.  No matter the size of the hole though, I’ve learned the best tool to use is asking for help.

Somewhere out there, someone has had a similar experience and could provide some insight and help if you let them.  I guarantee that somewhere along the way, someone helped them too.  Call it paying it forward or the gift of the blessing, but we all need help when we are in a hole.  It is not a sign of weakness at all.  Personally, I see it as a sign of growth to get to a point where you can check your ego and ask.

There is a saying, “Solve the problem at the lowest level.”  Meaning, we make it harder than it has to be sometimes.  Asking for help can mean the difference of needing a shovel or a backhoe.  I choose a shovel.
