A friend told me about something
she read called Screaming in the Silence.
It was about a person trying so hard to communicate, but could not find
the words. I’ve been thinking about that
phrase for over a week now. I recall
times being stressed and overwhelmed to the point the words were just not
there. No matter how hard I tried, I
could not string the words together let alone say them. I actually remember a conversation with
someone very close to me where I had to say, “I just can’t find the words to
talk right now…can we talk later?”
As I’ve learned to be better
communicator, I’ve found when the words are not there, or I am in overload
mode, those are indicators to stop, get quiet, and wait for it to pass. Trying to fight to find the words or mumble
through it just inflates the issue and makes it worse. Feeding that impatience
monster just makes him stronger.
If you feel you are screaming in
the silence, allow yourself some time to work through whatever put you
there. It’s better to wait for the right
words rather than force out the wrong ones.
Rod, came by for a visit and this post reminded me of the book, "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly." It's the ultimate story of communication and resolve. It's not a perfect match to your great post but it was the first thought that popped into my head.
ReplyDeleteHowdy, thanks for surfing by. I'll look the book out. It sounds interesting.
