Seeks Its Own

We have all heard the old adage that opposites attract.  Well, that holds true for magnets, but I’m not so sure that is the case with people.  Have you noticed how negative people tend to attract negative people, jocks hang with jocks, stoners hang with stoners, professional victims attract professional victims, and positive people attract positive people.  If we know chaos the best, that is where we find comfort.  If we are victims, we find comfort with other victims.  If we are positive people, we feel most comfortable around other positive people. The truth is we seek our own type, as that is what we know best. Yes, we are all products of our environment, but that does not mean we have to stay in said environment.  Now here is the gazillion dollar question.

How can you ever change your life or the lives of others if you keep yourself in the same situation?  The only way to get anything done is through change.  If people are pulling you down, find new people.  If situations are emotionally draining, remove yourself from the situation.  If a job is wrecking the rest of your life, it’s time to consider other options.  Change is not always easy, but it can be done.

Mahatma Gandhi put it best, “Be the change you want to see in the world.”
