They Are Out There

I watched a movie called Craigslist Joe.  It’s a documentary about a guy named Joe Garner from LA that lived totally off Craigslist for a month.  He walked out of his apartment with the clothes he had on, a backpack, cell phone, computer, tooth brush, and of course the camera guy.  He had no money, no credit cards, and no itinerary.  He survived by posting for places to stay, rides, food, volunteered, bartered, was a hair model in exchange for a free haircut, and overall was dependent on the kindness of others for his survival.  He went from California to Washington then across to Chicago, over to New York, down to Florida then back to California all with the help of strangers.  His final stop before going home was to meet Craig Newmark, the founder of Craigslist.

At the end of the film, his mother asked him to describe the journey in 10 words or less.  Joe got quiet, started crying, and summed it up with one word, inspiring.  Contrary to all the crap called news these days, watching the show reminded me that there are indeed still a lot of good people out there with great hearts.
