Be quick to listen, slow to talk, and slow to anger –
James 1:19.
We all have or have had those
people in our lives that get all up in our business, rather than stand down and
listen, when we do dumb things: “I told you so…Why would you be with an asshole
like that…I wouldn’t do that…That was stupid…why did you do that?” Here’s the deal. We know inside when we do dumb things. Just like, we do not like being told when we
do dumb things and neither does anyone else.
Yes, I’ve been one of those people too, but I “unlearned” being one of
those people. I “unlearned” it through
three things:
1. I cannot and do not own the actions of others. It is their lives and decisions, not mine.
2. I learned to stand down and count to five rather than
spouting out some terse or cutting comments that serve no positive purpose.
3. I learned that those that are quick to judge typically
have some similar baggage of their own.
