You Don't Own It


Be quick to listen, slow to talk, and slow to anger – James 1:19.

We all have or have had those people in our lives that get all up in our business, rather than stand down and listen, when we do dumb things: “I told you so…Why would you be with an asshole like that…I wouldn’t do that…That was stupid…why did you do that?”  Here’s the deal.  We know inside when we do dumb things.  Just like, we do not like being told when we do dumb things and neither does anyone else.  Yes, I’ve been one of those people too, but I “unlearned” being one of those people.  I “unlearned” it through three things:

1.     I cannot and do not own the actions of others.  It is their lives and decisions, not mine. 
2.     I learned to stand down and count to five rather than spouting out some terse or cutting comments that serve no positive purpose.
3.     I learned that those that are quick to judge typically have some similar baggage of their own.
