One Step Away

Have you thought about how we are all one-step away from a life-changing event? A car wreck puts you in a wheelchair, you’re collateral damage of a robbery gone badly at a bank, you get an unexpected promotion and raise, or you literally bump into someone that turns out later to be the love of your life. Yes, the first two examples above are gloom and doom and the other two are about the upside; however, they are all real life example of how quick things can change in our life.

From the personal side, I still remember when my nephew-in-law, Scott, called me to tell me my brother-in-law, Mark, had been in an accident and did not make it.  It was about 5:30, and I was talking to Nora and David at R-Bar.  With one phone call, my life along with everyone in my family completely changed.

I shake my head at people that hold grudges, stop talking to family members because they may not like some of their choices in life, or those that choose to stay pissed because they feel they have been dealt a stinko hand in life. Holding on to all that nonsense leaves you tired, angry, bitter, and toting around a lot of unfinished business.

Personally, I choose not go through life worrying about what could happen.  Rather, I strive to enjoy what is happening.  Yes, I do get hung up on silly things occasionally, but I know enough now to ask, “is this insert subject adding to or taking away from my life and those connected to me?”  Remember, we are all just one-step away.
