There is a thief among us.
He steals from 100% of us and always gets away with the crime. He is a master of disguise, but we all know
his name, Procrastination. We all
procrastinate at some level.
It can be as simple as delaying taking out the trash to
completely avoiding a person or situation because we do not want to deal with
any conflict. Sure, you can delay taking
out the trash as long as you want but at some point, the stench becomes
unbearable. My experience with
procrastinating with people and situations under the guise of avoiding conflict
is that all the delay does is escalate things internally in me to the point
that it will become a conflict. I
realize that timing comes into play in most everything, but if we consistently
say the timing is not right, we are doing nothing more than lying to ourselves
and using a different word rather than accepting the fact that we are
procrastinators.
As Jamie Leonard told me in 2006, “You deal with it now or
it will deal with you later.” Help
arrest that annoying thief, Procrastination, by checking and changing those
habits of putting things off.
