Opportunist

So here’s one to think about today.  By definition, an opportunist is a person who adapts his actions, responses, etc., to take advantage of opportunities, circumstances, etc. Where I typically see the term used is when it comes to some type of fraud like all the nonsense on Wall Street.  However, as I looked at the definition a little closer, I began to wonder if there is another way to see an opportunist.  There are many of examples of adapting actions and responses to take advantage of opportunities and circumstances.

I see a chance to help someone and change their life.  Yes, I am taking advantage of any opportunity and circumstance to help a fellow human being in a tough spot.  Does that make me an opportunist? I saw a video on the news of a store employee jumping to save a baby that was falling out of the basket.  He did not think about possibly falling himself or if someone would get mad.  Does that make him an opportunist?

In my mind, adapting actions and responses to take advantage of an opportunity or circumstance that can change a life or the world is the right thing to do.  If that makes me an opportunist, then I wear the title proudly and will be an opportunist till the day I leave this place.

Are there any other opportunists out there?
