We all have the ability to make a difference in someone’s
life. While having a beer with one of my friends, he told me about a man he
sees on the corner each day on the way to his office. This particular man is
there at a certain time in the morning and typically there around a certain
time in the afternoon. This morning he asked the guy if he was really looking
for work, and the guy said yes. He asked the man about his past, and he said,
“I made some bad choices that landed me here.” My friend told him to come down to his office
and he would see what he could do to help him.
Contrary to what we all think about panhandlers, the man
walked down to my friend’s office. My friend
told him. “We need to do a background check and drug test, and if it all comes
back good, I can give you a job.” The
background check is in progress and the drug test is coming, but that is not
what is important.
We see people with signs on the streets all the time. Some are hustlers and some are really people
in need. In this case, my friend chose to give someone an opportunity. No matter how it turns out, he showed you can
make a difference by providing an opportunity and possibly changing a life with
a little kindness. It is really is that
simple.
