February 17th is an important day in my world. The 17th is Random Acts of Kindness Day or as most call it, RAK. It started in Denver in 1995 as the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation, www.randomactsofkindness.org, a non-profit organization with the purpose of teaching and spreading kindness. The web site offers everything from daily calendars to programs for kids all with the mission of helping spread kindness. I’m happy to say they continue to grow and provide a positive influence around the world.
Typically, you see more kindness during the holidays, and luckily, we are seeing a lot more RAK’s during the crazy weather, but I really believe RAKs can be a daily occurrence. The collective number of RAKs in one day can add so much positivity to the world. At some point today, an event or situation will present itself for a RAK. You will know it when you see it, so act on it. Open the door for someone, smile and say hello to a stranger, or buy a stranger’s coffee or breakfast. There are all sorts of opportunities out there, and when kindness is in play, things just get better. How do I know? I’ve been living the RAK lifestyle since 2006. Let’s collectively work together to on having all sorts of RAK moments today. That my friends, is how we can all change the world a little bit at a time.
