Catered Versus Challenged

I heard a reference to today’s generation, the catered.  Rather than working for something, most everything is given to them.  I am thankful my Dad instilled a work ethic in me around the age of 10.  I mowed yards and threw the local newspaper in Alvin until I was old enough to get a job at the local department store.  At 61, I still have that same work ethic.

Being catered to breeds the entitlement we see in so many.  You see clothes piling up in the laundry room, and them whining about not having any clean clothes and responding, it’s not my job to wash the clothes.  Well, you wore the clothes so I would think if you don’t want to stink, wash them.  Expectations of a new car, a new cell phone each year, $200 jeans, a gas card, and a large allowance are the defacto norm these days.  People learn accountability by challenging them.  Rather than cater today, issue a challenge.
