Readability is just as it sounds. Readability refers to how easy it is to read and make sense when communicating. I recall something Dr. Virginia Murray said in my Technical Writing Course in college, “30% of most everything written can be deleted without losing the message or intent of the paper.” We can make it harder than it has to be when communicating. Rather than stop or ask for a timeout when we cannot collect our thoughts, we ramble, or we say nothing assuming we may communicate the wrong thing.
For me, readability applies to all levels of communication: body language, tone, & the words. Our words may say one thing but our tone and body language say something very different. Rather than trying to string together a bunch of large words or use exaggerated tones and motion, just communicate with your heart. Doing all the other nonsense only confuses the other person. Be readable and you will be sporting a large smile when you see how many more people want to communicate with you.
