I feel it is my responsibility to pass on my experiences and things I’ve learned over my 61+ years of dancing around on this earth. If I can save someone a misstep or provide a different way of thinking on something, then I am doing my job. I had one of those very conversations with two young men Sunday afternoon. The topic, one of my favorites I discuss often, was about the difference between friends/acquaintances, and who is at your table. Here is quick overview of my definition of friends versus acquaintances. You ask someone for help and a friend says okay as it does not matter why. An acquaintance says, what do you need? There are only so many spots at your table so choose your friends wisely. Here is where the conversation took a nice twist for me.
Both guys were closing out their tabs and about to head out. In fact, one got a call from his girl, and he said, I’m gonna be a little late. I’m in the middle of a good conversation. What could have been a quick chat ended up being an hour-long discussion. At the end of the chat, they said, thank you for sharing your experiences, and I responded, you’re welcome and thank you for your time.
When I published my first book in 2010, I put three things I do daily on the back cover, and I still do them 11 years later:
1. 1. Make a Difference in Someone’s Life.
2. 2. Learn at Least One New Thing.
3. 3. Meet at Least One New Person.
On Sunday May 9, 2021, I made a difference by instilling some knowledge, learned some people do want to learn from others with more experiences, and met two new people. Challenge yourself to knock out all three items today. The little things are what can change someone’s day.
