There are weight lifting routines called muscle confusion workouts. They work your muscles in a variety of ways
for maximum results rather than doing the same routines. If you do the same routines in the same order and
same amount of weight, your muscles get used to it over time. Changing your workouts keep your muscles
working and growing.
I believe the confusion concept should apply to our daily routines. I’ve done some experimenting at home with
simple things such as brushing my teeth, shaving, showering, etc. I could do all those things, get dressed, and
be downstairs then not recall doing certain things. They were such habit that I zoned out. Safety studies have found some people could
not describe their work commute as it was such routine that they zoned out. That is dang scary that we can zone out behind
the wheel of 6,000 lbs. of moving force, but it happens. I started varying my routines years ago and
find it keeps me engaged. I change my
activity sequence when I wake up, work out at different times, take different
routes to the gym, and even change the fonts and colors on the computer
screen.
Just like your muscles, your brain gets used to routines and get lazy. Challenge yourself to do something different
today. Confusion in the case of your
brain can be a good thing. Heck, I live
in a state of confusion, but that’s by choice. If I stay confused, my brain stays engaged. Go out and get confused today. It’s good for your melon.
