Reaction

I wrote this one nine years ago, and it still hold true in 2021.

“Has anyone given you negative feedback on your writing, and how do you deal with criticism?”  That was one of questions during my creative writing discussion with the students of Giddings High School.  I responded, I try to learn something from any comments or feedback I get except an anonymous source.  Here’s my logic. If you do not have enough faith in your words and comments to support them, how I can possibly find any value in the same words.

I shake my head at the number of armchair critics/experts out there for most any subject.  They whine, bitch, moan, and complain yet offer no alternative or a solution.  You know the ones, “Someone needs to do something!”  Well, Mr. Complainer what would you do, “I don’t know but someone needs to do something.”  I have a very simple guideline.  If you want to complain or criticize, come armed with ideas for a solution; otherwise, I don’t want to hear it.  Criticism and feedback can be great tools for learning and growth, if they are constructive rather destructive.  There you have it.  That is my reaction.
