The Follow Up
“Creativity is a natural extension of our enthusiasm.” - Earl Nightingale
Richard stopped by on Wednesday to drop off the original Harley parts I took off the new scooter when I had the customizing work done. I was showing him my new fancy iPod holder that’s waterproof and magnetic. He said: “damn Harley, they stoled my idea.”
We all have thoughts and ideas for new things, sayings, process improvement, and just ways to do things better. Everything in life started as an idea in someone’s head. Creativity lives in all of us, but we sometimes squash it or discount it as being silly. Sure, not every thought or idea is a life changing or million dollar idea, but I contend there are some floating around in your head.
Just think what it would be like if people Henry Ford or Bill Gates did not follow through on their ideas. Who would have ever thought that computers would be running the vehicles we drive? People laughed at Art Fry and Spencer Silver saying no one will ever use those. Oh I failed to mention what Art and Spence invented: the Post It Note. Heck, I’m looking at a pad on my desk right now. What would we have down without Al Gore and his invention: the Internet? YES, I know he did not invent it. That was a joke.
So when was the last time you followed up on one of those thoughts or ideas? Ya know they do not pop into your head by accident. I would go a step further and say there are some thoughts and ideas that are recurring. Those are like a blinking neon sign: DO SOMETHING WITH ME, PLEASE!
How do you think the TOD started? :)
Action Item – Write down your ideas. You never know where they may take you.
