Thought of the Day 9/5/09

Tag Team Event

“Give a hug to someone you know needs one more than you.” – Fortune Cookie

Most people think of “wrasslin” when they hear the term tag team. For today, I’m using it in the context of couples as it does indeed apply. Today, the feature tag team is Nora and David.

They are in the final stages of construction of their new garage apartment, and yesterday they needed to pick out the appliances, fixtures, etc. I was talking with Nora and she was talking about dreading going to Lowe’s. She said: “I know I’m being negative and David is looking at me with the think positive look.” I too told her to think positive and that I was feeling it was going to be a good adventure and they would save more money than expected. David was getting tagged in as the positive team member for the day.

We met up a bit later for some beers. As I walked in The Spot, they were looking over a lengthy receipt of all the appliances, hardware, etc. So I’m like a school girl wanting to hear how the event went. Nora said she was pleasantly surprised. It did take a while but the sales person was great. David started going over the receipt with me. They got 20% off some of the appliance, 10% of other items, and then another 10% from a coupon from USPS for moving. Now here’s where it gets funny. The sales person told them the 10% USPS coupon would not apply to the appliances, but when they rang up the sales, they did indeed apply it to the total order. That little extra saved them another $300. Grand total, we estimated they saved somewhere around $700 yesterday plus got 0% interest for a year. Saving money and using someone else’s money, now that’s a deal.

So now that I’ve set the groundwork, here is why I titled today’s as a Tag Team Event. Whether it’s a marriage, dating, friends, etc., not everyone is gonna be “on” 100% of the time. I work at it too, but I too have my days where I’m off. Those are the days you need to know when to tag in your partner to help you out. Nora knew she was feeling negative yesterday so she tagged in David and it worked out their advantage. That’s how it works. You need to be able to recognize when you are off and reach out for a little pick me up of positive energy.

Kathy M. sent me a note yesterday asking to shoot her some positive energy so I did. It did not matter what the situation was but that she knew she needed some and knew where to get it. We’re not alone in this world. Rather than sit around feeling down or sad, reach out. Tag in your positivity partner(s).
