“Time is one of the most precious things in life. It can’t be replaced, and you can’t get it back. To give someone your time is to say you are important to me, and I am giving part of myself to you.” - Rodney Williams
I’ve noticed a number of people on Facebook doing an “I’m so thankful for__________” challenge for the last couple of weeks. The challenge is tied in with Thanksgiving. They essentially write something they are thankful for each morning. I view every day as Thanksgiving in the literal since as I thank God and the universe. Hence today’s title, it’s Thanksgiving 365 days a year in my world.
When I wake up, I verbally say thank you for the first five things that come to my mind. Saying it is better than just thinking it or feeling it. It’s another form of validation. It also sets a tone of gratitude in my heart and head for the day. Next, I write in my Gratitude Journal. Sometimes it’s two words and other times a page. I write what I am thankful for now and what I will be thankful for aka gratitude intentions. Throughout the day, I say thank you for the encounters with people. When I hit the bed at night, I say another five things exercise again, but this time it is saying thank you for the five things/gifts from the day. That sets the tone of gratitude for my sleep.
Sure there are times I may not feel grateful, at the moment, if someone hurts my feelings or I get cut off in traffic, but then I remember, that every single event in my life has a purpose. There is a lesson of some sort in every second of my life. They are not always apparent at the time, but there is a lesson in there. I’m still thankful for those events too as I know they are meant to make me a better person.
As we go into the holiday season, I challenge each of you to make each day Thanksgiving. Start it out simple by doing five and five exercise. Before you know it, you will start feeling it on the inside. I leave you with this one.
I’m so thankful for each of you (that is one entry I write daily in my gratitude journal). You all contribute to my life in so many positive ways. You give me kind words, smiles, hugs, inspiration, your energy, love, and your TIME. I am truly blessed and grateful.
