Saturday's Words From The Big Chair At Starbucks

December 26th – The Presents

“Gratitude is the memory of the heart.” - Jean-Baptiste Massieu

I received and was part of some very nice stories yesterday about neat presents people received. And the best part of it, not a one of them was a “thing.” Sure they were wrapped and looked great yet they were not “things.” They were wrapped in goodness, positivity, love, caring, and joy.

I had a totally unplanned lunch, a day of visiting, and a movie with someone close to me that I have not seen in months. Now that was a wonderful present. Another friend of mine got a new job, which allowed her to stay where she likes living rather than relocate to another city. Again, that’s another wonderful present. Another friend had a successful round one interview for a new job.

Another very touching story of a wonderful present came in late last night. Two of my friends were visiting with their Mom. They found out their Mom’s neighbor was alone for Christmas so they invited her over. They put together a little gift bag for the neighbor, all impromptu mind you, and spent the evening having a little wine, listening to some nice music, and sitting by the fire just enjoying the company.

Gifts come in a shapes and sizes, but the best gifts ever are those given and received from the heart. And even better, these are gifts that can be given and received all year long.
