Gauges
As I fired up the truck this morning for the trek to Starbucks, all the gauges really caught my attention to the point that I leaned forward to look at each of them. They were all working fine, but they were speaking to me. I began thinking about all of the points the gauges monitor on my truck to keep it proper working order. What happens if we don’t pay attention to the gauges? We can run out of gas, we can burn the motor up if we run out of oil, etc. We have to keep an eye on the gauges to keep the vehicle in proper working order.
There are all sorts of gauges that monitor “us”. Our brain is pretty much the instrument cluster for our body. It monitors everything going on in us to keep us in proper working order. Working with the brain is another significant gauge: our spirit. Our spirit monitors our connection with the ones in our lives, connection to God, and our connection with the universe. Our spirit is always monitoring and providing us with data and feedback, but we do not always hear it as there is so much chatter going on in our daily lives. When I pray sometimes, I will just say: “Lord, I am having a hard time hearing my spirit, can you help me clear the chatter so I can hear the answers?” One thing I have learned is that the Holy Spirit speaks very direct. As I heard it said a couple of weeks ago, our spirit speaks to us with conviction. He gives us direct answers of yes or no. If the answer seems wishy washy, that’s not coming from the Holy Spirit.
Now here is the kicker, what to do when the “monitor” gives us the answer? Our free will kicks in at that point and we can choose to listen to the answer or not listen to the answer. I know I feel it in my heart and physically when I go against the answer. Without fail, I suffer feelings of anger/sadness, regret and disappointment. When those creep up on me, I know I messed up. And yes that happens more than I can to admit, but I am human and therefore, flawed by nature.
When you get in your vehicle today, take a look at your gauges then think a minute about the “us” gauges. Are all your “us” systems in proper working order? Do you feel good, are you smiling, and are you connected with your spirit? It takes them all to be the well oiled and unique machine called you.
