IT’S OK
I believe one of the best lessons I have ever learned in life is that it is ok to ask for help. There was indeed a time where I couldn’t or should I say wouldn’t let people help me as I felt I could do it all, solve it all and fix it all. Well! I learned real quick there are indeed things I just can’t do no matter how smart I am, how much money I have or what my skill set is relative to the situation. I don’t know how to do any everything. There are some things that money will not fix, and there are indeed unsolvable problems.
When I finally realized that asking for help does not mean I failed or am incapable of solving or fixing something, a huge boulder was lifted off my back. Letting go or surrendering “something” and asking for help has become one of the most freeing things I can do now. Whether it is asking God for intervention in my life on a certain situation or calling Richard and saying I need help, I’ve finally allowed myself to do it.
All too often I think, we get caught up in the ego quagmire of what someone else with think if we ask for help, or it has been beaten in to our head in the past that asking means failure. On the contrary, asking for help is a sign of growth and movement forward. It means you are seeing and accepting there are just things you can’t do and you need to rely on others for help. When you reach out to someone for help, it can be scary as there is an ego based concern about rejection. I don’t know how else to say it other than: GET OVER IT! You are not perfect. There will be a point, in fact many of them, where you will need help. Just ask. Allow someone to help you. Allow someone to be a blessing in your life. Allow the process to work as it is designed. We were not made to be individuals capable of doing everything by ourselves. We are designed to be connected. In my view of the world, God puts you in a place to ask for help when he is trying to help us grow and move to the next level. He is showing us that we need to connect with others. At least that is what I have learned and am still learning.
There are still times where I find myself afraid to ask for or take help from someone. Then I recall Jamie’s words on the gift of the blessings. That’s all help really boils down to ya know. Asking for help allows someone else to give you the gift of a blessing. Just remember: It’s Ok!
