Just One, Please

Can You Give One Minute A Day?

On my Facebook page, there is a section under the Info tab called About Me. I have one very short sentence in the section. “My two favorite words: Thank You.” Those six words translate to a lifestyle. It is the lifestyle of gratitude and striving to be thankful for everything that goes into making up the life of Rodney Wayne Williams.

Thank you is the first thing out of my mouth when I wake up in the morning. I end each night in bed with same two words. It does not matter if I wake up or go to bed in a stinko mood. There is still at least one thing to be thankful for each day. I take it a step further and have a Gratitude Journal where I write down the things I’m thankful for right now along with setting gratitude intentions for the things I will be thankful for later.

Before you ask, there are indeed times I wonder why I should be thankful. I too get sad, depressed, angry, frustrated, cry to the point it hurts, along with all of those other energy wasting emotions. There are days I really want to smack the crap out of something. We all do. Life is just damn hard sometimes, but I still choose to believe I can and will find something positive amid all the chaos thrown at me daily.

I read a short little story about taking a few seconds to find at least one thing to be thankful for each day. You can indeed find at least one thing in a few seconds. My first thought when I read it was being thankful that I had the resources to get the book to be able to read that little passage. As I thought more, I wanted to take it a step further and see how many things I could document in a minute in my gratitude journal. Here are just a few.

Thank you for waking up.
Thank you for my first smile.
Thank you for each breath.
Thank you for the Starbucks coffee.
Thank you for the first stretch of the day.
Thank you for having a bed to sleep in.
Thank you for everything.
Thank you for the people in my life that love me.
Thank you for having a job.

The items above are just a snapshot in a minute of my life today. Surely you can devote at least a minute out of your day to find a few reasons to say thank you. Take the Thank You One Minute Challenge, and send me the results.
