Words From The Saddle - Day One of RodeoHouston

Season Change

We all know the four traditional weather seasons: winter, spring, summer and fall. Much like the weather, people also have seasons, but there are far more seasons in each of our lives than there are in nature. The word season is often referenced in the Bible, Joel uses it often in his sermons, and most books on personal growth also make reference to seasons. One in particular that I recall is from the book How to Get a Date Worth Keeping by Dr. Henry Cloud. He comments about dating without expectation for at least six months in order to see the other person go through their seasons. I actually referenced that very comment last night while discussing the breakup of a 19-month relationship that a friend of mine recently experienced. People change, period. That’s why I snicker when I hear: “he/she is set in their ways and will never change.” The reality is that your season will indeed change. It’s just a matter of when. That is the nature of life. You have a choice when a seasonal change is presented. You can be adaptable and work with it, or you can choose to resist it at which point you burn a lot of energy for no particular reason.

I am going through another seasonal change in my life as I type this message. My term as Chairman of my rodeo committee is over. I keep getting questions from people on what I will do next, and the honest answer is that I really don’t know. All I do know is that a seasonal change is in the works. It is going to play out the way it is supposed to. The right opportunity for something new will be presented when the time is right. As long as I know it and see it, I’m fine with that. It just is what it is.

Is there a season change happening in your life right now? Do you feel something happening or coming in the air but can’t really put your hand on it yet? Just ask. Take 10 minutes to get still and quiet and free from distractions then just ask. The good Lord will give you the answers. As REO Speedwagon sings: “Roll With The Changes.”
