They Just Happen
Everyone knows what a hugger I am. Well I had a very neat hug experience yesterday that I wanted to share with y’all. I was in Laura’s office chatting about voice/data cable of all things, and Johnny walked in. I was leaning on her guest chair, and he came up beside me, put his arms around me, put his head against my arm and gave me a huge hug. He laughed a little, didn’t say a word, and then walked back to his area to continue shredding paper.
Johnny and I always hug when we see each other. This one was a little different though in that he stopped what he was doing, walked down to Laura’s office and gave me a hug for no apparent reason other than he wanted to. Sure I’d hugged Johnny earlier when I walked in the office, but he wanted to give me another one. To me, random hugs are just another form of random acts of kindness. Your assignment today, should you decide to accept it, is to be like Johnny and go give someone a hug for no apparent reason.
I like the way John “Halcyon” Styn, founder of www.hugnation.com, describes hugs.

“…Think of it as a sort of prayer — a communal expression of compassion. It is a weekly reminder that we are connected and we are all far more similar than we are different. Everyone can use a hug.”
