You Decide
Things happen in our life for a reason. Joel refers to it as Devine Interruption. Most call it Devine Intervention, but I like Joel’s choice of words. Interruption is probably the more appropriate word as a lot of times, things happen in our lives that may or may not work according to how we think they should work. My personal beliefs are that there is indeed a plan by the good Lord for all of us, and we are active participants in that plan as we have free will. I’ve also learned to question events in my life but rather than ask why (and I still do a fair amount of times), I strive to look at it in another way. I replace why with what. What am I supposed to do with this insert subject? For me, “what” means I am accepting the event rather than labeling.
It’s just a little thing I do that works me away from my default nature to attempt to analyze everything. I know and accept my tendency to want to overanalyze, and I also know what that looks and feels like. That is just one of my many improvement areas I work on daily. I also know that I feel and experience a higher level of contentment and peace when I ask “what” rather than “why.” For me, asking why tends to allow my ego to kick in, which typically leads to some type of internal spin up cycle where I work myself into a silly tither. “I’m not understanding what you meant by that statement…can you say it another way to help me understand?” Yes I use that phrase a lot. For me, it works better than saying: “Why did you just say that?” “What” works better for me than “why.” You decide what works for you.
