Hold On!

These Are The Days We Will Remember

I did not write anything yesterday as I was just basking in and reliving THE most amazing and wonderful week. Friday a week ago, I was in San Antonio enjoying time with my Air Force friends, rodeo friends, and friends from Houston. Saturday I had the pleasure of attending Lauren’s baby shower. Sunday I had the WOW experience of riding in and flying a fighter jet. Tuesday I had a nice walk in the park and some great conversation with my rodeo friend, Karen. Wednesday I had lunch, dinner, and an Astros game with Johnny. This was our first time to go to a baseball game together. Thursday I had a nice lunch and conversation with Teri. Friday I had a great lunch with Pete and a few hours later, I got THE CALL. I received the call from Skip and Butch to tell me I was selected to be on the Board of Directors for the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. I was able to experience Judi’s joy of getting her dream car. In fact, I made a comment to her about the amazing week and wondering how it could possibly get any better. Well, ask and you will receive and boy did I in a huge way.

Lauren and I met for breakfast on Saturday morning. We had a nice meal and lotsa laughs on many subjects ranging from her sunburn from the weekend before out at the jet ride, the “baby-nastics” going on in her and how the baby seems to like kicking her in the ribs, to how boys are dumb sometimes, how she has mellowed some, to her ankles swelling. We were all over the map on subjects but all included laughs and smiles as it should be.

After breakfast, we hopped in the truck to head over to Babies-R-Us to pick up a few things. As soon as I started the truck, she said: “I have something to ask you…me and Mom talked about this…and I wanted to ask you if you would be my baby’s Godfather…” For the first time in a while, I was unable to speak as I was overcome with emotion. She was smiling and said “I’m gonna cry.” I snickered and said “I already am.” I then responded with yes I would be honored to be your baby’s Godfather.

Per Wikipedia: The modern view of a Godparent tends to be an individual chosen by the parents to take an interest in the child's upbringing and personal development. What better compliment or vote of confidence could you get other than being asked to be involved in upbringing and personal development of someone’s life?

Thanks to everyone involved in giving me some outstanding experiences and memories, and a very special THANK YOU to Lauren for changing my life in the most wonderful of ways. Today’s title is a line out of a Keith Urban song. How else could I sum up the most amazing week of my life with anything other than These Are The Days We Will Remember? Boy! I have so much to remember.
