I Didn’t Recognize You
I had the pleasure of attending the 25th Anniversary Party of Electra Link last night. In true Rod fashion, I indeed rode the Harley and parked in the reserved spot. Since Ernie rides too, he keeps a few parking spots available right up by the front door. From the time I got off the bike, it started and went all night.
I began running into people that have not seen me in at least five years or longer. They all had the same look on their face and said the same thing. “Is that you, Rod? I didn’t recognize you.” Some of the people were customers from when I worked at TechKnowledge. Others were old friends from Texaco, some were industry friends I’ve known for 15 years or more, and yet others were Electra Link employees I worked with in the past.
Part of the reason they did not recognize me was because of all the weight I’ve lost over the last four years. The other reason is that I am a totally different person now, and they picked it up. Sure my physical appearance has changed with losing 60 lbs, but the change they were feeling was my energy. If you compare pictures from four years ago to now, it is totally obvious, and I don’t mean just the weight. As someone commented on Facebook a while back, “Are you ever not smiling?” The answer to that question is no. I’m pretty sure I even smile in my sleep.
Projecting positive energy starts with just a genuine heartfelt smile. From there, they go viral just like a video on YouTube. You can watch it spread across a room just like “the wave” at a sporting event. Smiles change everything. Mother Teresa said it all.
“Smile at each other, smile at your wife, smile at your husband, smile at your children, smile at each other - it doesn't matter who it is - and that will help you to grow up in greater love for each other.”

Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to SMILE…SMILE…SMILE…then smile some more.
