A New Piece
"We are like pieces in a jigsaw puzzle. We are all unique and have our own special place in the puzzle of the universe. Without each of us, the puzzle is incomplete." -
Rodney Williams
I recall when I wrote the quote above after taking a class on the Law of Attraction then actually seeing an incomplete Harley jigsaw puzzle. Since writing it, I’ve grown to understand how truly important all the pieces are in the puzzle. I’ve also learned that rather than seeing the puzzle as incomplete at a snapshot in time, I am supposed to see it as there are just more pieces coming.
On October 4, 2008, a piece was added to my life’s puzzle. The name of that piece is Lauren Foster. At the time, she was just Teri’s daughter to me, and I was just a friend of Teri’s that snagged them way cool rodeo tickets each year. I can assure you that neither one of us had a clue that a group outing to the Fort Bend County Fair set in place the foundation for a life changing event 20 months and 4 days later.
On June 8, 2010 at 3:15 pm, I was afforded the blessing of seeing the newest piece of the puzzle in my life: Tristen James Foster. He is Lauren’s new baby, Teri’s grandson, Josh’s nephew, and my godson. Back on May 1st, Lauren asked me to be Tristen’s godfather. After taking a few moments to collect myself, I said yes. I knew at the time it was a huge honor and knew it too was a life changing event. The magnitude of that simple question from Lauren became so apparent when I saw him for the first time, held him for the first time, and was able to experience the love and joy he brought to a room of friends and family. Isn’t it ironic how an 8lb 5oz baby can change lives in a few short hours? There is no irony at all. That’s just the way the good Lord planned it. To Tristen James, I wish to say thank you for making a difference in the universe and being the newest piece of the puzzle in my life.
