Living on the Edge
Today’s title is a common phrase. It refers to everything from someone considered a thrill seeker/adrenalin junkie to the name of an Aerosmith song. To me, the phrase living on the edge means striving to get the most you possibly can out of life within reasonable boundaries. Robert and Dan want me to jump out of a plane with them. Some say that is dangerous, and yes there is a fair amount of risk associated with parachuting. However, who better to jump with than two of the Air Force Special Operations Team that do it for a living? They are skilled, and I trust them. Those are reasonable boundaries.
I sometimes ride my Harley without a helmet. I know that adds a higher level of risk in the event I fall off the bike; however, I also understand physics and know falling off my bike at 70 with or without a helmet will have terminal consequences. One big difference though is that I do not go out on the bike thinking there is a possibility I may have an accident. I know the possibility is there, but I contend that possibility also exists each time I walk down the stairs of my house, hop in the truck to go anywhere or even walk around the track at Memorial Park. Heck, a car could leave the road and hit me.
Do you see where I’m going this one? Anything in life can be considered living on the edge. There is some level of risk in everything we do. We can choose to roll up in the fetal position and hide from life, or we can put it out there, take some calculated chances and live on the edge a little. What I really like about the edge, is that I get to define it. So what does your edge look like? Are you living on it?
