Cycles
I go through cycles. Ronnie, my Dad, knows when I am cycling as he sees it in my writing. He calls me when he sees patterns on certain subjects. The conversation is usually something like; “Boy, is everything ok?...yep Old Man, just working through some issues…”
I know when I am doing it as I feel it. There are times things are very deep, introspective, and are even painful as they expose parts of me. There are other times where it is comical and light. I would venture those of you that have been with me for a while also see the cycles. I will get on a subject sometimes and write about it for a week. The words and slant are different but the subject is the same. Other times I write about something one time and move on. Here are few things I have learned about writing.
- Write from the heart. There is always time to edit later.
- Everything I write is not always about me. I do not always know who it is for, and then there are other times I now 100% certain who needs the words.
- I write about what I experience, what is speaking to me, and what I am feeling. If it does not feel right, I skip writing about if for now. If it is something really bugging me but just not ready for the press, I write it and save it for later or delete it.
- Writing is healthy. It connects what you feel in your heart to the logic in your head. When you see it on paper, your feelings are validated. Writing completes the heart and head connection.
We all cycle. Whether you call it peaks or valleys, or whatever term gives you that warm fuzzy feeling, it is still a cycle. No one is spot on all the time. The cycles are what keep us thinking, growing, and creative. Well! That is what my cycles do for me! I learn, grow, and get smarter. What do your cycles do for you?
