The Real Reason
What does an open bottle of cologne and two glow in the dark night lights have in common? They were gifts at my sister’s house last night. You would have thought they were a large stack of 20s each, and I am certain if they did have a monetary value, they would indeed be worth $1,000s of dollars. I doubt you can touch these though as they are priceless. These three gifts came from my grandnephew Kaiden. Did I mention he is four years old? Not only did he give the gifts, but he also wrapped them and wrote out the name-tags.
The cologne is actually his dad’s that he found in his parents bathroom. The nightlights were in a drawer in the house. He gave the cologne to his Dad and the nightlights to my sister and brother-in-law, his grandparents. My niece Tiana was telling the story of him running around the house looking for things to give as gifts for Christmas. There was no nudging or prompting. This one was all his idea. He wanted to give something. You better believe he was watching for the looks on the faces when his gifts were opened too. At four years old, Kaiden gets it. He understands the concept of giving.
As I sit here at my “backup” Starbucks at 6:05 am on Christmas morning writing this piece, I am still smiling and seeing Kaiden’s face and the joy he felt giving. So there it is folks, our lesson today comes from a four year old. Thank you Kaiden for the reminder of The Real Reason we get together for the holidays.
Merry Christmas All!
