I’ll Do That For Someone Else Today
As I was sitting in my official chair at Starbucks this morning contemplating a refill, I saw a woman fumbling through the purse looking for the credit card for her fancy coffee. I walked up to the counter in time to hear her say “Let me see if I have any money in my car.” I sat my cup down for my refill and said “I’ll get it.” She smiled, said Merry Christmas and thank you, and then said “I’ll do that for someone else today.” I responded with a smile and said “Paying it forward is a good thing.” So what is the big deal about buying someone a cup of coffee? Well, nothing really. The big deal is about her response, “I’ll do that for someone else today.”
For a big part of the world, the concept of giving and paying it forward wrapped up at 11:59 last night. The concept of giving/gratitude is a seasonal thing for a lot of people rather than a lifestyle like it should be. Being a seasonal thing is quite tough for me to get my hands around and understand. The feeling you get from giving and helping is one of the best feelings ever. Why wouldn’t people want to feel that way 7x24x365?
A woman forgetting her credit card at 6 am on an Sunday morning started a chain of gratitude events today that who knows how far it will go. Think, “I’ll do that for someone else today.” Gratitude makes the world go round.
