Are Ya Drunk?

Zigging & Zagging

My neighborhood is one of the prime running routes in the city as it a low traffic area and close to Memorial Park.  Some days there are a few and other days there is a cast of 100s on the road.  But more times than not, there are two particular guys I see running down my street at some point.  One is my age, and I would assume the other to be in is late 20s.  I’m guess it is a father and son team.

I recall the first time I saw them running.  I thought dang the one guy is zigging and zagging all over the road.  He would get away from the other guy then right back up by his side.  I was thinking, wow, running drunk, now that’s commitment.  When I came up beside them, I saw the reason for the zigging and zagging.  The younger one is blind.  Some days he has his hand on his dad’s (I believe him to be his dad) shoulder and still running.  This morning they were tethered with a cord between them.  So you are asking what is the big deal?  There are visually impaired runners all over the place.  You’re right that’s not the big deal.  The basis of today’s rambling is two- fold.

Number One – I assumed and made a judgment based on what I saw without knowing all the facts.  When I rolled up on them, I found out my judgment was wrong.  It was a reminder to me to get all the facts before doling out opinions, and it is not my place to judge anyway.

Number Two – We define our own limitations.  It would be easy for the young man to say, “I can’t run because I’m blind.”  Well!  What do your eyes have to do with your feet?  It would be easy for Johnny to say, “I can’t go with you today Rodney cause my legs are stiff.”  Instead, he says, “Come on legs work.”   Believe and have faith in yourself and anything is possible.

Are you talking about it, or doing it today?  It’s your choice ya know.
