Cheer Up…It Could Be Worse
“The beatings will continue until the moral improves.” I recall hearing that phrase often in Monty Python skits back in the 70’s. I still laugh at it and yes do use it sometimes as I get a kick out of the irony. Beating me up does not motivate me to do better. If anything, it motivates me to get away from the source of the beating. That is why I get all sorts of confused when I see and experience people beating themselves up for whatever reason. We make a mistake or error in judgment. That comes with living and taking chances. Rather than analyze it, see it for what it is, develop a plan not to do it again and move on, we sometimes just sit there and continue the emotional flogging. It is painful and yet we do it anyway. From my own personal floggings, I can tell you nothing positive comes out of it. Yes, I do still beat myself up occasionally, but I know when it is coming as I feel it. The difference now is being to move out of the state of emotional flogging far faster than before.
Things happen. We make questionable decisions and judgments. How you react from and move through those situations is what makes you stronger and smarter. For those saying “Cheer Up…It Could Be Worse…” I challenge you to change that saying on the inside to, “Cheer Up…It Will Be Better…”
