When I told my friends and family I was going to be jumping out of a plane, I got the usual supply of comments and questions. You know the ones, “Why would you jump out of a perfectly good airplane…Isn’t that dangerous…Is skydiving on your bucket list?” Why would I jump out of a perfectly good plane you ask? Well, because I chose to and yes, there is a level of danger, but I contend jumping is safer than traffic in Houston on any given day.
Actually, I do have a bucket list but not in the traditional sense. Mine has one thing and one only on it, “Rodney, live your life to the fullest and be thankful for each day.” Well my life got a little fuller Friday the 19th. Along with Robin Young-Ellis, and Skip Wagner, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to travel to the thriving city of Fentress, TX to skydive with our friends with the Air Force Special Operations Unit out of San Antonio. Freefalling at around 120 mph adds a completely new dimension to the old biker phrase, “In the Wind.”
For all three of us, the adventure started and ended the same identical way, with a huge smile on our faces. Never once did I see concern or anxiousness on Robin or Skip’s faces. It was all about enjoying the moment, being thankful for the opportunity, and having a great adventure. When you live your life to the fullest and are thankful each day, is there any reason to have anything else on your “List?”
I want to give a heartfelt thank you to Kirby and Robert for putting the jump together for us and for the great staff at Skydive San Marcos. I also want to send a huge thank you out to Kenny and Torrey for the hookup at the PBR event Friday night.
