Pay Attention

Awareness - is the state or ability to perceive, to feel, or to be conscious of events, objects, or sensory patterns.

I heard an interesting statistic yesterday.  There have been over 1,100 car jackings in Houston within the last year.  A big part of them were in the driveways of homes.  I watch at least one person each morning walk in the coffee shop and leave their car unlocked and running.  Daily, I encounter “down lookers” that are more interested in reading their text message than watching where they are going.  I see cars with purses and electronics in the seat.  In most all instances, the responses you get when they are carjacked, trip, and have their car stolen or car burglarized is either I was not paying attention, or I did not think…

There are bad people out there in the world.  One way to minimize the possibility of encountering them is awareness.  Pay attention to what is going on around you.  If you think someone is following you, do not go straight home.  Find a police officer or very public place.  Look around before getting out of your vehicle when you pull in the garage.  Stop using the dang cell phone long enough to complete your journey.  There is nothing so important that you have to risk tripping and falling or walking out in front of a car.  Put everything away in your car when parking in a lot or on the street.

Paying a little attention to the world around you and exercising a little awareness can help reduce the chance of becoming a statistic.  Pay Attention!
