From the “we need another law” department, it seems a town
in New Jersey has passed a new law against texting and walking at the same
time. Apparently, cars have killed three
people recently due to texting while jaywalking. It appears the dumbasses just walked smooth
out in front of the cars while intently texting someone about some nonsense I’m
sure. Whatever happened to stop, listen, look both ways, and then
cross the road? Since March, the police
have written 117 tickets for distracted jaywalking, and yes, of course there is
a money grab component of it to the tune of $85 for the ticket. That’s roughly $10,000 in cool cash money to
the city in 12 weeks. We all know how
well attempts at legislating behavior work.
Look at how well passing additional laws and taxes haves done such a
great job at reducing smoking and drinking.
Being the inquisitive one I am, I wonder how many drivers
were texting when they hit the person that was jaywalking and texting in traffic. As Ron White says, “You can’t fix stupid.”
