I have all sorts of fingerprints on my walls now. Lauren, Tommy, and Tristen came over for dinner
the other night. Lauren was chasing him
around and being so apologetic. Former,
“everything has to be perfect…go get the touch up paint me” would have been
running downstairs to snag a brush and a can of paint. Now, I just laugh and smile about it. After all, it’s just a mark on the wall and
can be easily fixed. The next morning I
looked over at the staircase where a big handprint is and just smiled about it
as it triggered the memory and vision of him giggling and smiling while he was
dragging his hand down the wall. I saw a
few others and more memories came back.
As I saw more fingerprints around the house, I thought about
the marks we all leave each day. Right
now, I bet you can think of something someone said or did that has stuck with you
for years. One of the more memorable
marks my Dad left on was some advice about relationships. “Rod, never stop courting the woman in your
life. If you do, someone else will.” There are 1,000s of other marks people have
made in my life that I think of often.
Some are great and others are well, less than great; however, they are
still marks that stay with me.
At some point today, your actions or words will leave your
fingerprints, or mark, on someone. It’s
up to you what those fingerprints look like.
As for Tristen’s fingerprints on the wall, I think I will leave them
there for a while.
