Unsay

Sometimes our mouths are like guns.  Once you pull the trigger, there’s no getting the bullet back in the barrel.  Same thing happens when we pull that verbal trigger and shoot off our mouth.  We can’t unsay the words.  There’s no getting them back.  Whether they were on target, warranted, or whatever, it’s done.

Most words that need to be unsaid were shot out due to anger, hurt, our button being pushed, or some other emotional injury.  In my experiences, shooting out the words does nothing but cause remorse in me for allowing myself to get to that point.  As I’ve enjoyed more life experiences, I’ve learned to stand down rather than allowing my tongue to pull that verbal trigger.  I pause and assess rather than kneejerk and pull the 44 magnum verbal trigger of venom and sarcasm.  It’s been a long while since I’ve felt the need to unsay something, and I want to keep it that way.
