Wasn't Given One

Does anyone know Charlotte Brown from Emory Texas?  I do not know her either, but I do know her story.  Charlotte is a record holding track and field star.  She sprints, runs relays, and pole vaults.  From what I saw when I watched her, she is pretty day good at it too.  Oh, I forgot to mention a minor detail.  Charlotte is legally blind with 20/-400 vision.  In her words, “It’s like looking through one of those little coffee stirring straws…I can see blurry images about that size.”  To watch her run or pole vault you would never have a clue.  She just does her thing.

The reporter interviewed her mother attempting to learn more about how Charlotte can do the things she does.  Her mom just said that when Charlotte began losing her sight at a very young age, we just never treated as an excuse for what she couldn’t do.  We told her everyone has things in their life they have to deal with and just learn to work with it.  Since Charlotte wasn’t given an excuse, she never needed one.  She just keeps moving and working with what she’s been dealt.  There’s no bitterness at all.  Oh and yes, she is also an honor student and has lettered in sports.  In fact, her name on the back of her jacket is in brail so she can read it.

Charlotte kinda gives a little perspective on what’s possible when you live excuse free.
