Deflector

Finally, it is cool enough in Houston to open the sunroof in the truck.  When I pushed the button this morning, the little popup deflector caught my eye.  As the sunroof opens, a small metal dam deploys and angles up right above the roofline of the truck.  It is ever so slight, but it does a ton of work.  The purpose of the deflector is to control the wind entering the cab of the truck.  That small amount of deflection helps manage both the wind entering the truck and associated noise.  I recall older vehicles I had with no deflector, and the wind and noise would just beat you into submission.

We have deflectors too.  Some examples are boundaries, walking away from less than comfortable situations, the on/off switch on the cell phone and computer, or not answering the phone when you know the calling party is just going to bitch and whine. They, deflectors, mitigate the noise and nonsense we encounter daily.

If you use the word overwhelmed daily, you need a deflector.  If you stay frustrated more than happy, you need a deflector.  If you work way too much because of “time bandits” (that is another topic on its own), you need a deflector.  If the three previous sentences strike a nerve, you need deflectors.  Put simply, deflectors help us live a better and fulfilled life.  They are the checks that help us maintain balance.   A little deflect here and a little deflect there and before you know it, you feel that wonderful feeling called balance.  Go out and deflect my dear friends.
